Book Review: The Goodness of God

Another hobby of mine is reading.  When I get the time, I love to read!  Some time ago I was given the opportunity to read The Goodness of God, by Randy Alcorn.  It is a short read but reminds us of truths we often forget about our God.  He is good, He loves us and we need to trust and praise Him.  If you doubt, or need some encouragement, pick up this little book.  It is great to have around just as a reminder, especially on THOSE days! :)  It would be a good gift for someone as well.  I have used it a bit in counseling someone who needed to be encouraged.

So glad I organized!

Today, I was sewing on a Christmas gift and needed a very small safety pin to pull some elastic.  I have moved in the last few months and was not looking forward to trying to find one that small.  Then, I remembered that we used to have safety pins in our embellishments.  I was very glad I have organized my embellishments into drawers sorted by color.  I easily found the pins and hadn't wasted hardly any time from my project!  I was so glad I had taken the time about a year ago to organize my stash!

It also was very cool that I could use some of my scrapbooking items on other projects!  Has this ever happened to you?  If so, leave a comment and tell me about it!

Back to Christmas prep!

Thoughtful Thursday!

Today, I was helping a friend get started scrapbooking.  She was organizing pictures and starting on her first page.  As I was helping her, I was reminded how much I love the craft of scrapbooking!  I have enjoyed it, even when I was so far behind, putting together albums that my grandchildren love to look through!  And memories and leaving a legacy is what it is all about....telling my story, from my perspective.

I thought about how much fun it is to go through pictures and remember things I often have forgotten in the busy day to day schedule.  It also reminded me to take the time to do it.  Something that gives me so much pleasure and relaxation is something I should make time for more often.  I would love to schedule one day or even one afternoon a week to work on my story.

The memories scrapbooking brings to light are a blessing as well as a challenge.  I enjoy reliving fun times with family and sweet stories of loved ones no longer with us.  I desire to tell their stories as well as my own.  One saying goes, "God gave us memories so we could have roses in December".  How dull life would be if we never remembered where we came from, how far we've come and the joys and sorrows life has brought.  We hopefully learn from the trials and rejoice in the victories.  Fun times with family gives us joy and relaxation as well, encouragement that we so often need.  We need all these things to become whole and balanced in our lives.

Telling our story or those of our loved ones, leaves a legacy for them and future generations.  Yes, I hope my great grandchildren will be able to know me in a similar way my grandchildren can now.  I personally, love to hear stories of my grandparents and great grandparents, good or bad.  It helps me to see their struggles and joys and how they persevered in their own lives.  It is exciting to see how I might be a bit like them, be it in looks or actions, thoughts or deeds.  It is a connection to the past.

I wonder, why do you scrapbook?  I would love to hear what motivates you in this wonderful paper craft!  Comment below and let me hear your joys and possibly sorrows you share in your albums!
